Full Description

An archaeological weatchign brief carried out in 2003 found a foundation that may have formed the base of a precinct that ran parallel with the west wall of Table Hall. The wall comprised a flint foundation, the uppermost portion of which comprised large flints from which the mortar had eroded. Below this portion, another course of flints in soft mortar was seen to form the lowest foundation material. The foundation itself protruded 0.30m to the west of the modern wall face. It is suggested that the foundation may have been dug into open ground due to the presence of fragmented mortar in the trench and the inward angle of the foundation. (1)
