Full Description
During excavtion at Sandwich Lawn Tennis Club in 2021, pottery, animal and fish bones, seashells,
ceramic roof tile and brick fragments were retrieved. The pottery was dated to between AD 1350 and AD 1575, corresponding with use of the area by the Stour as ‘The Great Dunghill’ during the medieval and early post medieval periods. Metal finds (two possible coins, a small buckle, a large
needle/pin and a strap end all in copper alloy) did not survive well enough to be dated. (1)
