Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief programme, was maintained during the excavations associated with ground preparation and reduction in conjunction with the proposed development of the site. Consisting of a small – moderate area of open strip ground reduction to enable a suitable solid base to be formed to facilitate the reconstruction of a new tennis court to be constructed across the eastern half of the Sandwich Lawn Tennis Club land. Utilising the remnant of a former tennis court surface, and underlying sub-base material, surviving across the eastern half of the proposed development area, the remaining western area, with limited external ground preparations around the whole site, was the focus of the monitoring scheme.
