Full Description
A large linear feature was uncovered during excavations ahead of development along Church Road, New Romney, Kent. It was discovered at the south east end of the site set on a long north-east by south-west axis. The feature was found cut into the underlying beach sand deposits and was traced for a minimum length of 12m with neither end being found. It was about 3.5m wide, at least 1m deep with steeply sloped sides, its base was not seen. Its fills consisted of sandy and silty clay with lenses of beach pebbles. Although no datable material was recovered it was sealed by a layer of silt which pre dates the medieval features on the site. (1) (information summaries froum source)
