Ditch provisionally dated to the medieval period, uncovered during an archaeological evaluation and excavation at Land north of Thanet Way by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in advance of a new Lidl store being built on the site. The excavation took place between August-November 2019.

The ditch was aligned NE-SW, it measured 2.9m wide by 0.25m deep. The ditch is described as having gently sloping sides and a rounded base. It contained a series of fills, in which were contained an assemblage of charcoal pottery - provisionally dated to the medieval period, and marine shell.

Also uncovered during the excavation were three probable prehistoric ditches (TR 16 NE 1385) associated with a prehistoric field system alongside Iron Age pottery. Evidence for Romano-British agricultural practices, including further ditches and pit features (TR 16 NE 1384) was also identified at the site. This suggests that the area has been consistently used for agriculture since the prehistoric period.

Other agricultural features dating from the medieval period have been identified in the surrounding area during other investigations. (1)
