Full Description

The site was excavated by Pre-Construct Archaeology in October and November 2014, following an evaluation in October 2014. The excavation revealed evidence for archaeological activity at the site from the Mesolithic to the post-Saxon periods (TQ 57 SE 391, TQ 57 SE 392, TQ 57 SE 394). This took the form of flint working debris, and the creation of pits and post-holes at the site.

Saxon pit feature was measured at 2.40m in width and 0.45m in depth. It cut through an earlier N-S alignment of pits from the Mid-Late Iron Age - Romano-British period. The pit feature contained a single sherd of Saxon pottery described as an "earlier Saxon-fabric type (from the original report (1))".

Many post-Saxon pits were also revealed at the site; these produced no artefactual material and could not be conclusively dated. (1)
