Full Description
Late medieval/post-medieval floor/bedding deposits and 19th century gravel paths were excavated at the Tudor Garden, St Augustine's Abbey in 2004. The floor or bedding desposits were comprised of successive deposits of flint and clay, crushed chalk, and clay. The ?floor deposits were thought to date from the 16th-18th centuries. The gravel paths were identified in two of the trenches and comprised gravel deposits for N-S and E-W pathways which were visible on an 1874 OS map of the site. Associated with these were levelling deposits contained fragments of 19th century tile and pottery. (1)
