Two features of probable prehistoric date were identified during an archaeological evaluation on land on the east side of Summer Road, St Nicholas at Wade, Thanet. They comprised a shallow post-hole cut by a later pit. No artefacts were recovered from the post-hole, however daub and burnt flints were recovered from the fill of the later pit. Their presence suggests that this area may have formed part of an early settlement somewhere nearby, overlooking the Wantsum Channel. Prehistoric settlement has previously been recorded to the north-west of the parish church and there are numerous cropmarks of potential prehistoric date in the surrounding area. However, no other features were encountered during the course of the evaluation so the activity actually on the site is minimal.
