Full Description

A late Pleistocene palaeochannel was excavated during on land at King's School International College and Malthouse buildings, Canterbury during a watching brief on geotechnical work in 2016. The palaeochannel was identified alongside late Pleistocene fluvial gravels and was thought to form part of a braided river system. The channel itself ran SW-NE across the site.
The sands and gravels associated with the palaeochannel are thought to belong to the First Stour River Terrace, and have yielded both artefacts and animal remains elsewhere in and around Canterbury. (1)
