A medieval pit with burnt clay was uncovered during evaluation trenching on a site between the Boathouse and the Vicarage, within Trench 2. The burnt clay could not be identified as daub, as no imprinted wattle marks were displayed: the nearby presence of upstanding structures could, therefore, not be confirmed. The pit also contained a fresh single sherd of medieval pottery dated to the fourteenth to fifteenth centuries other archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were identified associated with this phase of activity on site. The pit may be an isolated feature, which perhaps functioned as a refuse pit. Evidence is lacking to suggest that the pit represents back plot activity of a medieval building that stood on the periphery of the settlement, fronting the main throughfare.
