Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation carried out in 2021 found a small number of archaeological features, including a ditch and possible pits or linear features. A small amount of pottery suggested an early to middle iron age date.

Trench 1 contained a definite ditch, c. 1m wide and 0.16m deep. Seven small sherds pof pottery, probably of early iron age date, were found together with three struck flints. At the southern end of the trench was a large feature that may have represented a ditch or perhaps a pit series. A slot through the feature found another sherd of probable early iron age date.

Trench 6 produced a single large sherd of late iron age or Roman pottery. (1)
