Full Description
(1) Medieval: Field boundary ditch [G4] running East-West, only partial due to truncation by post-medieval ditches which seem to be along the same alignment. Pottery excavated dates to between 11th and 14th century. Single human tooth also excavated, which was likely residual.
There was also a north-south ditch [G5], which is likely to be contemporary with [G4] however the relationship was truncated by a post-medieval ditch. Sherds from this ditch dated to AD 1200/1225 - 1350/1375.
The Medieval features found on site indicate a wider agricultural medieval landscape, potentially relating to Farmsted at Thistle Hill located c. 0.75km to the south-west.
Post-Medieval: East-West Ditch [G6] which truncates through medieval ditch [G4] and is likely either a continuation or re-establishment of the medieval field boundary. There was also a North-South aligned ditch which also formed part of the field system that is largely still in use today.
