Full Description
A large 19th century pit associated with the Kent Fire Brigade's engine house was excavated during an evaluation carried out in 2001-2003 at the King's School, Canterbury. The exact dimensions of the pit are not recorded, however, it appears to be in excess of 2m in length and 1.8m in width. The pit was filled with loam, broken peg tiles, 19th century pottery, glassware. The pit may have been associated with an outhouse later converted into an engine shed for the Kent Fire Brigade. (1)
