An archaeological evaluation carried out at the site of the Orb Public House, 243 Ramsgate Road, Margate revealed later prehistoric, probably Bronze or Iron Age, ditches. Sections of three ditches were identified in total, across two of the evcaluation trenches. The ditch in trench contained two distinct fills: a thin, dark silty clay and likely primary fill of the ditch and a later fill composed of a brown silty clay containing chalk flecks and pieces. The upper contained a small number of crudely struck flint. The two ditches in trench 3 ran approximately north-south and contained dark fills, one of which contained three worked flint flakes and a single piece of burnt flint, all of which are thought to be Late Prehistoric in date (c. 1500 BC to AD 43). They are a likely continuation of the prehsitoric linear features seen in adjacent sites. (information summarised from source (1)
