Monument record TQ 77 NE 1287 - The earthwork of a small rectangular mound circa 14m by 5m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947.

Summary

The earthwork of a small rectangular mound circa 14m by 5m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This probable post medieval livestock refuge mound was the only one situated within a field towards the northern end of Cooling parish. It was still present in 1978 but had been levelled by 2001. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
