Full Description
The earthwork of a roughly oval mound circa 18m by 12m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This is one of two probable post medieval livestock refuge mounds within a field in Cooling Marshes. This mound is situated towards the southern end of the marshes at TQ 7659 7721. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
