Full Description
The site of a Second World War public air raid shelter and in the park on the Esplande visible on RAF aerial photographs -RAF/HLA/540 RV 6003 17-MAY-1942.The shelter has earthen blast walls and the entrance in the western side is protected by a blast wall. Two small huts/square structures, possibly associated with the shelter or the defences on this headland can be seen to the east of the shelter. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. Removed after the end of the war. (1-2)
