Full Description
The site of a large Second World public air raid shelter on ground between Westbrook Avenue and Bridge Road visible on RAF aerial photographs AF/26J/BR194 VC 12 10-JAN-1941. The shelter appears as a curving earthen mound over c.100m long and 12m deep with at least three entrances to the north in the curving side facing Westbrook Avenue. An Air-Raid Precautions post (TR 37 SW 1080) was located at the eastern end on the junction of the roads. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. Removed after the end of the war. (1-2)
