Full Description
A mound measuring 6.5m x 8m of uncertain date seen at TQ 8502 7837 at the northern edge of Allhallows Marshes. This is one of three similar mounds seen in the same field which were mapped mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery taken in 2001 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. This mound may be an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This form of mound has been referred to and identified in a contemporary paper on the subject (Spurrell, 1885). (1)
