Important geological sequence record TQ 57 SE 1133 - Boyn Hill gravels with palaeolithic potential, Knockhall Road

Summary

An archaeological and geoarchaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of redevelopment 2015. The geoarchaeological test pits revealed in situ Pleistocene Boyn Hill river gravel terrace sequences, presumed on the basis of lithology and altitude to equate to the Upper Middle Gravels at the Barnfield Pit, Swanscombe, type-site. A small assemblage of palaeolithic flints was recovered from the northern test-pit and a single flint from the southern test-pit.
