Full Description

A large double-ditched ring ditch, one of a group of six ring ditches likely to be the remains of Bronze Age round barrows visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs:Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007 and mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs:Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007. This site appears as a large irregular sub-circular ring ditch with a diameter of 31.2m within which is a smaller irregular ring ditch with a narrower ditch with a diameter of 20m with a single large central pit, possibly the remains of a central burial. This barrow lies within the cropmark remains of a large Romano-British settlement recorded in TR36NW238, the ditch of one of the settlement enclosures cuts through both inner and outer circuits of the northern side of the barrow (1)
