A post-medieval mill pond, later used as a fish pond, is visible on the Heritage Tithe Maps and 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. The feature was recorded during 2024 Kent Downs National Landscape Historic Ponds project.

Full Description

Mill pond, visible on 1st and 2nd edition OS map. Recorded during 2024 Kent Downs National Landscape Historic Ponds project.

Description: Very large pond with a second above it, marked on a 1st edition map next to a corn mill. Also on 2nd edition, modern OS, 1m LiDAR and aerial photography.

The pond is one of a series of large ponds associated with a corn mill at the site. These features are labelled as 'fish pond' after the mill went out of use, however, they may have originally been used to power the mill. (2, 3)
