Full Description

Prehistoric features including pits, post-holes, possible stake-holes, and flint metalling, were identified during an evaluation at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2016.

Prehistoric remains were identified to the west of the site, and comprised a large pit or waterhole, alongsie an area of rough flint metalling, and post and stake holes. "The features were sealed by a thin layer of light grey silty clay containing much fire-cracked (calcined) flint which extended across the southern and western sides of the area. The flint layer, which may represent an occupation horizon, was overlain by three further silty clay deposits, all of which contained quantities of calcined flint, struck flint and occasional sherds of abraded prehistoric pottery. The upper deposits...probably represent developed, agricultural soils of later prehistoric or perhaps Roman date" (from the original report, 1).
A sample from a prehistoric deposit identified charred cereal grain.

Other finds from the excavation include spindle whorls and quern stone fragments, it is unclear which period these finds originate from. (1)
