Full Description

Bronze Age to Late Iron Age features including ditches, circular features demonstrating evidence of in situ burning, and a large shallow possibly circular or subcircular feature were identified at Woodlands Farm, Calcott during a watching brief in 2014-2015. The large circular feature comprised a possible burnt out uprooted tree or a shelter, measuring 0.28m in depth and containing charcoal, Bronze Age or Late Iron Age pottery. "The linear features potentially represent boundary ditches relating to former agricultural activity of the site such as irrigation channels or even field boundary ditches" (from the original report, 1). Evidence of burning at the site has been interpreted as possible bonfire kilns or hearths. Artefacts associated with these features include burnt daub, burnt flint, and charcoal.

Undated features at the site included a palaeochannel (TR 16 SE 308) (1)
