Full Description

Late prehistoric and early Roman pits were identified at Yew Tree Park, Petham during an evaluation in 2016. The features measured 0.50-1.65m in diameter, 0.16-0.36m in depth. Finds recovered from the fills of some of the features include small quantities of pottery, daub, and charcoal. The authors of the report suggested that it is likely that these features "lie on the fringes of a late prehistoric/early Romano-British settlement that lies closer to the line of modern Stone Street" (from the original report, 1).
