Full Description
Two Bronze Age pits were excavated at Bodkin Farm, Whitstable during an evaluation in 2023. One of the pits measured "0.94m long, 0.52m wide and 0.16m deep..., and contained 846 pieces (4093g) of burnt flint, 38 pieces (138g) of fired clay and a Bronze Age fired clay loomweight, with significant charcoal deposits. The pit was sampled due to the charcoal deposits, with the majority of the finds recovered from the sample itself" (from the original report, 1). The second pit measured 2.13m in length, >0.88m in width, and 0.19m in depth. The feature contained four later prehistoric pottery sherds thought to date to between the middle and late Bronze Age.
