Full Description
A Roman enclosure, ditches, and a probable cremation cemetery were excavated at Frognal Lane, Teynham during an evaluation in 2017. "Trenches 2... and 3..., located in the north-east end of the excavated area, produced several Romano-British ditches with abundant finds of a high-status origin. They may have been associated with a significant Romano-British settlement or building, potentially located to the north of the evaluation site. Evidence of a rectangular enclosure, comprising two U-profiled linear ditches, was found in Trench 2... A potential Romano-British cremation cemetery was recorded in the south-western part of the evaluation area, consisting of a pair of perpendicular walls and two cremation graves in at least four vessels. In Trench 14... a pair of enclosure(?) walls were uncovered, bounding two cremation graves... In Trench 13... there was pottery and burnt flint, and a ditch (possibly an enclosure ditch) on a north-west to south-east alignment, containing pottery, animal bone and a fragment of a glass vessel" (from the original report, 1).
