Full Description

TQ 57 74. In the late nineteenth century an Explosives Factory was established at Green Street Green to manufacture all varieties of nitrocellulose based smokeless powders. In 1885, John J. Allchin leased a section of Beacon Wood country park for the yearly rent of £4-10 shillings to the E.C.Powder Company Limited, who began manufacturing smokeless gunpowder
