Abstract/Summary

At a meeting of the Committee of the Explosives Section of the Seventh International Congress of Applied Chemistry held on 5th December, 1908, it was proposed by Mr. Guttmann, and carried unanimously, that a history of the rise and progress of the Explosives Industry in the British Isles should be compiled. A publication sub-committee was formed, consisting of: Captain T. G. Tulloch, late R.A. (ex officio). Major Cooper-Key, late R.A., H.M. Chief Inspector of Explosives. Oscar Guttmann, M. Inst. C.E., F.I.C. W. R. Hodgkinson, Ph.D., J.S., F.I.C., Ordnance College, Woolwich. The Executive Committee of the Congress was approached for a grant in aid of the expenses, and very cordially responded. The sub-committee succeeded in securing the services of Mr. E. A. Brayley Hodgetts as Editor.
