Full Description
Post-medieval features alongside a deposit of developed soil were identified during a 2016 excavation at Barton Court Grammar School. A structure formed of peg-tiles and measuring 0.9x0.3x0.3m was identified to the north-west. This was thought to represent a kiln or oven dating from the late medieval or early post-medieval period.
A Victorian pit containing coal and clinker fragments and the stems of two clay pipes was excavated to the south east. This feature measured 1.74m long, 1.26m wide, and 0.25m in depth.
Part of an ornate 17th century silver shoe buckle was found within the fill of an earlier feature during the excavation. (1)
