Full Description

Two Early to Middle Bronze Age ditches and a probable quarry were identified during an evaluation carried out at Stone Farm, Sittingbourne in 2018. The ditches measured 2.1-4.63+ m in length, 0.69-2.35m in width, 0.2-0.51m in depth, and the probable quarry comprised a large pit measuring at least 4m in length and 0.55m in depth. These features contained pottery dating to the Middle Bronze Age, alongside artefacts such as worked flint, burnt flint (fire cracked flint).

The ditches are sited in the north-west of the site where extensive modern quarrying has impacted on the potential for archaeology, therefore, more features dating to this period could have existed in this area of the site, but are now lost. (1)
