Full Description
The earthwork remains of a small oval mound measuring 5m x 6m was seen at TQ 7248 7728. This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
These were mapped from RAF 1952 aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Since being photographed in 1952 this mound has been destroyed through clay quarrying for the local cement industry. (1-2)
