Summary

The earthwork of an oval mound circa 9m by 6m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1953. This was the only example of a possible post medieval livestock refuge mound situated within a field on Cliffe Marshes. It has since been levelled. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

The earthwork of an oval mound circa 9m by 6m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1953. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula.
