Full Description
The earthwork of an oval mound circa 9m by 6m is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1953. This was the only example of a possible post medieval livestock refuge mound situated within a field on Cliffe Marshes at TQ 7500 7779. It has since been levelled. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
