Full Description
Two Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age barrows represented by ring ditches were identified during a strip, map, and sample excavation carried out in 2014. One of the ring ditches contained two pits, one of which contained a cremation burial within a ceramic vessel. This was interpreted in the report (1) as a Bronze Age satellite cremation burial.
The other barrow was represented by two ring ditches, the outermost of which had a single entrance. Two potential grave cuts were identified in association with the ring ditches, however, skeletal remains were absent.
Following the 2014 excavation, a strip, map, and sample excavation was carried out in 2017 which identified further evidence for Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments including two barrows (one dating from the early Bronze Age, one from the mid Bronze Age), a rectangular shaped Neolithic/Early Bronze Age monument, and two Early Bronze Age ring ditched monuments.
