Full Description
Anglo-Saxon buildings and pits were identified during investigations carried out in Faversham between 2012-2019. The buildings comprised a possible grubenhaus represented by 6th century cill beam slots outside the main building and seven post-holes dated by pottery evidence to 450-650 AD.
Artefacts recovered during the excavations included bone hair pins, bone stylus, pectoral cross, alloy brooches dating between the Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods.
The structures and features are associated with a large Roman aisled hall or barn and bath house (TR 06 SW 75). The presence of Anglo-Saxon features and artefacts at the site indicates that the area was occupied between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. (1)
