Full Description
The cropmark remains of a possible Iron Age or Roman settlement mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The site is located to the north-west of Manor Farm at West Street, immediately to the east of the former chalk quarry excavated for the cement works. The features seen comprise an incomplete ditch-defined enclosure with a ditch measuring 105m in length, with a small annex enclosure 25m x 35m. This has a possible oval pit in the centre. The larger incomplete enclosure is masked by the cropmark of a large maculae, possibly a large pit 34m in diameter. These features were seen on Google Earth aerial photographic imagery taken in April 2007.(1)
