Full Description

The faint cropmark of a probable Iron Age or Roman rectilinear enclosure with possible associated trackway is visible on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken on 23rd June 2008. This is to the southwest of St Margaret’s at Cliffe at TR 3549 4388. The trackway is to the southwest of the enclosure. The relationship between the two is unclear; however both seem to be on a similar alignment, perhaps indicating that they are contemporary in date. Within the enclosure is a pale cropmark of a possible wartime crater situated in a part of the country which is known to have been used as a training area during WW2.(1-2)
