Monument record TR 37 SE 1478 - Roman ditch along the route of the Margate to Weatherless Hill pipeline (Area 1-2)

During excavations associated with the installation of a pipeline between Margate and Broadstairs, Area 1-2 revealed a single feature of archaeological interest which comprised a ditch dated to the Romano-British period. This was recorded in the SW half of the area, It was aligned N-S, with shallow, irregular sides and concave base (6.80m x 1.20m wide, 0.13m deep). The single fill of this probable field boundary was deposited naturally but also indicates domestic activity in the vicinity
(pottery and flint). (1-3)
