Summary

The earthwork remains of a small oval mound, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of a small oval mound measuring 18m x 11m, centred at TQ 7206 7503. This is thought to be an example of the stock refuge mounds constructed in the 19th century or earlier on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This site was mapped from aerial photographs taken in 1947 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
