Full Description
The earthwork remains of a small oval mound measuring 18.5m x 11m, centred at TQ 7189 7524. This is thought to be an example of the stock refuge mounds constructed in the 19th century or earlier on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This site was mapped from aerial photographs taken in 1947 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
