Summary

The earthwork of a small circular mound, probably a Post Medieval livestock refuge mound, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This mound, since levelled, was one of five mounds situated within a field to the south of Egypt Bay. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork of a small circular mound, probably a Post Medieval livestock refuge mound, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This mound, since levelled, was one of five mounds situated within a field to the south of Egypt Bay and was centred at TQ 7799 7854. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
