Full Description
The earthwork remains of a small oval mound seen at TQ 7223 7649, measuring approximately 7.5m x 15m, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This was mapped from aerial photographs taken in 1947 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The mound has since been destroyed through clay extraction for the local cement industry. (1-2)
