Monument record TQ 77 NW 1357 - ?Post-medieval stock refuge mound, High Halstow

The earthwork remains of an oval mound measuring 11.5m x 23m and centred at TQ 7217 7655, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885). This was mapped from RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The site has since been destroyed through clay extraction for the local cement industry.
