Full Description
The earthwork remains of an oval mound measuring 12m x 21m and seen at TQ 7184 7665. This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This was mapped from RAF aerial photographs dating from 1951 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The site has since been destroyed by clay extraction for the local cement industry. (1-2)
