Full Description
The earthwork remains of a small oval mound measuring 10m x 9m which was seen centred at TQ 7332 7779. This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This is one of two adjacent mounds seen within a single field in Cliffe Marshes. These were mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
