Summary

The earthwork remains of a small oval mound, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds were mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of an oval mound measuring 11m x 9.54m and seen at TQ 7338 7756. This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within Cliffe Marshes on the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).

This site was mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
