Summary

The earthwork remains of an oval mound, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of an oval mound measuring 5m x 8.5m, centred at TQ 7409 7757, one of two adjacent mounds thought probably to be a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mounds, many of which were constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885). The adjacent mound is recorded separately as NMR Monument Number: 1532208. These were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
