Full Description
The earthwork remains of a small sub-circular mound at TQ 7493 7763, measuring approximately 7m x 9m, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. Such mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).
This site is one of two similar mounds located c. 75m apart in the same field. The other mound is recorded separately as NMR Monument Number :1532763.
Both have been mapped from 1953 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
