Summary

The earthwork remains of a small sub-circular mound measuring approximately 8m x 6m, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This was mapped from 1953 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of a small sub-circular mound seen at TQ 7467 7742 and measuring approximately 8m x 6m This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885).

This site was mapped from 1953 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
