Summary

The earthwork of a roughly circular mound circa 12m in diameter is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This possible post medieval livestock refuge mound was situated within a field on St. Mary's Marshes. This mound had been levelled by 2007. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula.
