Full Description
The earthwork of a roughly circular mound circa 12m in diameter is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This possible post medieval livestock refuge mound was situated within a field on St. Mary's Marshes at TQ 7975 7832. This mound had been levelled by 2007. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
